The Third Shipment

Many schools helped with this project, which resulted in desks chairs computers and gym equipment along with various items of school equipment being donated by schools in West Berkshire.

On the 4thAugust a team of 18 helpers loaded a large 40-foot Container with all the donated items, strong arms where needed to close the doors, and the lorry left with the container on its 3,000 miles plus journey. After the trip by sea it arrived in the port of Banjul The Gambia on the  21st August 2007. After negotiating our way through Customs we got the shipment released.

This shipment was the biggest so far.
The team of helpers that completed the loading of the 40ft container in under two and a half hours. A fantastic achievement.

Unfortunately this was still the rainy season, This gave rise to some interesting logistical problems in moving the large 40ft container across country with tracks flooded and almost impassable in many places. However, after chaining two lorry units together and some skilful driving, the journey was achieved with the container and its contents arriving safely at the school.

A BIG Thank you to the Schools that helped in this project, which included:
  • The Winchcombe School, Newbury
  • Parson Down Junior School, Thatcham
  • St. Paul's Catholic Primary School, Tilehurst.
  • St Bartholomew's School, Newbury
  • Kennet School, Thatcham
  • Beedon Primary School, Beedon
  • Streetly Primary School, Streetly
Through the generosity of the West Berkshire Schools the students of Youna Basic School, The Gambia have a better prospect of education and well being in more pleasing and comfortable conditions.

WE THANK YOU ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP
